We just bought a new mattress, one of those $3000 hybrids that are 15” tall. Sit that on a king base 10” tall, inside a bed with rails 10” off the floor and you end up with a bed 3’ off the floor. I’m 6’3” so no problem, but my petite wife is 5’2” with eyes of blue. Needless to say, there was no way she could climb into the bed almost 2/3 her total height.
Our bed is handmade country rustic and our house is filled with antiques and primitives. I solved my wife’s problem by making her a smaller version of the most popular bench I sell on Etsy and Amazon Handmade; a reclaimed barn wood, primitive oak bench.
I looked on Etsy and there were no other reclaimed barn wood steps tools available, so since my Etsy store exclusively features handmade items made from authentic barn wood I decided to add this stool to my inventory.
So, if you find yourself in the same predicament, with your new bed taller than you, and your decor is country rustic, I have your solution.
These step stools are made from 100% authentic oak barn wood salvaged from old barns in West Virginia or Southwest Virginia. As such they are very very strong. I weigh 260 and standing on the stool gives no deformation at all.
The pictured step stool is nominally 20 inches long, 11 inches wide, and 10 inches tall (10” fits under our bed). It is finished naturally* (unfinished, see below) from wood salvaged from a barn originally painted white. I also have salvaged wood from red and gray barns, as well a unpainted weathered gray/brown.
This style step stool can be customized to virtually any length up to 5 feet, any width up to 16 inches, and any height up to 17 inches. If you need a custom size stool, send me your exact dimensions and I will give you a price.
Finish Options:
*Natural: Exactly how it came off the barn. Lightly sanded to remove sharp edges and splinters.
Clear Coat: Minwax® Polycrylic® or Polyurethane. Chose Matt, Satin, Semi-gloss, Gloss
The pictures you see in my store depict a representative sample for my primitive step stools. You will receive a stool made from the same pattern, the same size and of the same type wood as the sample unless you specifically request a custom stool. Again, these step stools are handmade by me from 100% reclaimed barn wood, therefore each item is literally one of a kind with different wood characteristics and individual reclaimed attributes including but not limited to grain, color, dimensional uniformity, checks, splits, cracks, holes, knots, warp, twist, bow, cuts, scrapes, scratches etc. No two pieces are the same so please consider this before you order.
Custom step stools will take approximately 5-7 days to complete and ready to ship. If you prefer a custom made stool please contact me directly.
