My Story

I have had a passion for woodwork all of my life which is why I enlisted in the US Navy Seabees in the early 1970s. I spent three deployments working in the Bravo Company carpenter shop so I chose that for the name of my business.

I am the third generation of Wilson woodworkers and some of my earliest memories and experiences were in my father and grandfather’s shop.  

When I retired from Virginia Tech as Vice President for Operations, I had a sound retirement plan; consulting. I formed a company, The Sherwood G Wilson Group LLC, spent a ton of money on a consultant to design and build a website and had business cards, stationary, and envelopes designed and printed. I was set to start my new “retirement career.” Then I learned an important lesson; “Man plans, God laughs.” COVID hit and my plans went up in smoke.

I also planned to spend time in my shop between consulting jobs restoring antiques and building things from barn wood as a hobby, something I have enjoyed since my time in the service in the early 70s. Fortunately, I also formed a second fun little DBA company under the LLC called Bravo Company Shops.

I have yet to engage my first consulting job, but Bravo Company Shops has become my full-time retirement job. I guess you could say I’m living the dream. Proof that God’s plan is always the best plan.
